The IPL 2024 auction saw several players getting huge bids in the auction table but however some of the big names went unsold in the auction despite having a huge image (or) high anticipation among the fans and audiences. Here, in this article, we will have a look at five big players who went unsold in the IPL auction.

1. Steven Smith

The Australian legendary batter Steven Smith went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction despite having a decent season with the bat in Ashes 2023 and the World Cup. Steven Smith was last seen playing for DC in IPL 2021 and he didn’t register his name in the auctions during the 2023 IPL after getting unsold in the 2022 mega auctions, but he was seen in the English commentary box for the first time in the 2023 IPL edition.

Steven Smith saw no buyers even from his previous IPL franchises like RR and DC.

2. Phil Salt

The England opening batsman did a decent job for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 season and in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies, he ended up smashing two back-to-back centuries (109* in St. George’s and 119 in Tarouba). Salt scored 331 runs against West Indies from five innings but still, he was completely ignored by all the franchises on the auction table.

He kept his base price for just ₹1.5 crores but still went unsold.

3. Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood after having a spectacular season with the ball in the 2023 World Cup went unsold in the auction table as he won’t be available to play half of the IPL season due to some personal reasons. His unavailability factor in the initial part of the 2024 IPL season might have gone against him in the auction table unfortunately.

4. Colin Munro

Colin Munro has been in fantastic form with the bat in the ongoing BBL 2023-24, where he was seen smashing an unbeaten 99 against Melbourne Stars in the first match of the tournament. Munro’s destructive ability with the bat as an opener could have played an integral part for the franchise but unfortunately, none of them showed interest in him in the auction table.

5. Rassie van der Dussen

Rassie van der Dussen has been a solid middle-order batsman for the South African team in ODIs over some time, and his presence in any of the ten IPL franchises could have helped them potentially to have a terrific batter to play the spinners very well effectively in middle overs of the game like Daryl Mitchell.
