From the onset of 4th to 15th of November, which is still to happen this year and his obviously at some distance, something incredible is going to happen when it comes to the Indian men’s national cricket team. For starters, India will be in New Zealand for a bilateral series. However, that is not what is incredible, and that is exactly something which many a fan would come to expect because India New Zealand have specifically speaking, in the past half a decade, formed quite a rivalry of sorts. Haven’t they? As a matter of fact, most recently, the two teams came together to lock horns in the finals of the T20 2026 World Cup. This was the final contest, which was one which share and share commitment by team. India, Who also happen to be the hosts.
So the big question is what is so special and what is so incredible, which is going to happen as India tour New Zealand from November 4-15? Motor dispatches on this particular tour. Not even a single test match whatsoever. So then? What might be so special and so unforgettable about this one? You may wonder. Isn’t it? Well, the fact is, India are going to play for the first time this decade a proper 5-match one day series and this time it’s against New Zealand.
But having said all of that- this is what is most interesting and perhaps even surprising where it comes to the Indian men’s national cricket team.
The last time the Indian men's cricket team ever played a 5-match One Day International (ODI) series was in March 2019 against Australia at home. That’s right. You read that right. So that particular series took place nearly seven years back in the day. That was a part of time where talents like MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal and a few others were still very active on the Indian national team’s front. Today, the likes of Dhoni and Dhawan among a few others are former cricketers.
No, having said that, obviously there is a huge significance to India’s forthcoming tour of New Zealand and there could be a thing or two that explains why they are as many as five separate one day international involved on this bilateral tour. For starters of lately, New Zealand have been visiting India as a matter of fact, one of the most important precursor to this year T20 World Cup was New Zealand men’s team touring India. Secondly, this series is crucial for both teams because 2027 marks the men’s 50 over World Cup. It is an important step to prepare and get the right combination and to factor all the resources in before such a prestigious and eminent tournament awaits. India, of course, last won a men’s World Cup in 2011.
