At the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, boxer Nitu Ghanghas has ensured a silver medal after she beat Canada's Priyanka Dhillon in the semifinal. Notably, Nitu had ensured the first boxing medal for India at the Birmingham Games when she reached the semifinal. However, she will now have a chance to fight for a gold medal in the Women's minimum weight category (45kg- 48kg).
While Nitu was leading the bout 2-0 after she comprehensively won the first two rounds, she eventually won the match by RSC (Referee Stops Contest) in the third round. As soon as she was announced as the winner, it was certain that at least a silver will be coming to India although she would be hoping for a gold medal. In the summit clash in the final scheduled on Sunday, Nitu will be up against English boxer Demie-Jade Resztan.
The match is being followed by the boxing semifinal match involving Amit Panghal who will have the chance to ensure another silver medal for the country.
