The table-toppers put in a professional performance to secure their 24th league victory, with Jonathan David’s 10th-minute opener proving to be the difference. Although Angelo Fulgini pulled one back for Angers late in stoppage time, that was not enough to stop Lille as Burak Yilmaz had already kept the side up with a two-goal difference.

Lille have been here before, despite their reputation as an ‘underdog’. Eden Hazard and Gervinho were part of a team that helped the northern French side win their third Ligue 1 title and their first in 57 years in 2010/11. This season, they’ve relied on David, a 21-year-old Canadian forward, and Yilmaz, a 35-year-old Turkish striker.
