Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami are on the verge of completing a sensational transfer coup by signing the Spanish defensive duo of Jordi Alba and Sergio Ramos, two of the best defenders but past their prime. The duo will join their former La Liga rivals and national team colleagues Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, who have already signed for the MLS club this summer.
The 34-year-old Alba left Barcelona after terminating his contract, giving up a lot of his salary, and was linked with several clubs in Europe and Asia. However, he is keen to reunite with his friends Leo Messi and Busquets and try a new challenge in the United States. Ramos, on the other hand, left PSG after failing to agree on a contract extension and was also rumored to return to Spain with Sevilla. Although the latest reports suggested that the former Real Madrid captain could also be tempted by the prospect of playing with the Argentine again, after spending two seasons together at PSG.
According to SPORT, Alba and Ramos are in advanced negotiations with Inter Miami, and the deals could be announced before July 15. The club's president Jorge Mas has also confirmed that they have spoken with Alba and Luis Suarez, another former Barcelona star who is currently playing for Gremio in Brazil.
Inter Miami president Jorge Mas confirmed the rumors as he told El Pais, "Two or three more players will come. We spoke with Jordi Alba — while Luis Suarez has a contract and a release clause. I don't know if that will happen or not. All the announcements will be made before July 15."
Inter Miami have appointed Tata Martino as their new head coach, who has worked with Messi, Alba, and Busquets at Barcelona. The new boss will have the task of turning around the fortunes of the club, which is currently bottom of the MLS table with only five wins in 19 games.
