Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that a two-match Test series is nothing but a waste of time. Shastri’s remarks came after the series between South Africa and India ended in a draw as India won the second game by seven wickets. In the last leg of the multi-format series tour, India locked horns with South Africa in a two-game series. After the hosts clinched the first victory by an inning and 32 runs, Rohit Sharma and Co. bounced back to record a seven-wicket triumph in the shortest Test match in history.
As the WTC 2023 finalists recorded their first-ever Test win at Newlands, former India coach and commentator Ravi Shastri opinionated that a Two-match series is just a waste of time. The 1983 World Cup winner also said that India should refrain from being a part of the series in the future.
In the commentary panel, he said, "If any country asks India to play a 2-match Test series, India should say NO." The 61-year-old added, "It is a waste of time."
The second game between South Africa and India was recorded as the shortest match in the history of Test cricket. After the match, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was awarded Player of the Series said, “This ground will always hold a special place in my heart. The journey started here, always have fond memories. Very happy it went well today. That journey started in 2018 - our bowling unit was experienced and we wanted to make an impact. In India, the spinners do a lot more work. Our team is also going through a transition. A lot of bowlers have been changed, and the message in the team, keep fighting.”
Dean Elgar, who led his side in his last international match, said, “I would have liked to do more in this game, we might have had a few more runs to try and defend. Still very proud of my performance that I had in Centurion. Finally on the board there in the hundred club. Nice to contribute to a winning cause. Some really tough batting conditions throughout. It (3-Test series) would have been fantastic.”
