In the fourth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Delhi Capitals (DC) hosted Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam and emerged victorious by just one wicket in the last over of the game. Ashutosh Sharma, who came into the playing XI as an Impact Player for DC in the second innings, produced a breathtaking knock of an unbeaten 66 off 31 and helped the hosts to chase the massive target of 210 runs with three balls to spare. The right-hander won the match for DC from the point where they were heading towards the defeat, after reeling at 113/6 in 12.3 overs. Ashutosh’s effort also got him the player of the match (POTM) award.
Earlier, DC captain Axar Patel won the toss and put LSG to bat first. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran shone with their bats and made vital contributions 72 (36) and 75(30) respectively to help Lucknow reach 209 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. On tough bowling conditions, pacer Mitchell Starc bagged 3/42 figures in his four-over spell for Delhi. Chasing the winning target, Delhi Capitals were in a tricky situation as they were reduced to 116/6 in 12.3 overs. After that, Ashutosh Sharma put up a partnership of 55 runs with debutant Vipraj Nigam who played a knock of 39(15) runs. However, DC kept losing regular wickets with Ashutosh taking the innings further. With five runs needed from the last four balls one wicket in hand, Ashutosh smashed a six off Shahbaz Ahmed to take DC home in a thrilling chase.
Riding on Ashutosh’s intrepid batting, DC won the game against LSG but they will have to work on their batting department to win their further games. Their next encounter will be at the same venue against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who looked formidable against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second game of the competition played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
