The names of the nominees for the Ballon d’Or 2024 awards have been revealed featuring some big names across the globe featuring in the list. The Ballon d’Or awards are co-organised for the UEFA and France Football to recognize the best footballers in the world and their contributions in the 2023-24 season. However, two of the first biggest names in football, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are not included in the list.
This is for the first time since 2003, that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are not among the contenders to win the Ballon d’Or award this year. Lionel Messi has won the most Ballon d’Or awards in history. The Argentina football star has won the award eight times ((2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, 2023). On the other hand, five-time Ballon d’or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has earned the most nominations. The star footballer from Portugal has been nominated 18 times for the Ballon d’Or award.
List of 2024 Ballon d’Or nominees
A total 30 footballers across the globe have been nominated for the men’s Ballon d’Or award. Young football sensations including Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Lamine Yamal have been included in the list along with the likes of Harry Kane, Granit Xhaka, Rodri and other. The Ballon d’Or awards will take place at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on October 28, 2024. However, due to a huge time difference, it will be telecasted live in India on October 29.
