2024 Rewind: How the year went for Yashasvi Jaiswal?

2024 has been a remarkable year for the young Indian batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal in Test cricket. The 22-year-old scored 1478 runs in 15 Tests in 2024 with an average of 54.74, including three hundreds and nine half-centuries. He is currently the top run-scorer for India and the second-highest run-getter overall in Tests in 2024. The left-hander quickly became a key player for India in the toughest format of the game.

The start of 2024 was struggling for the left-hander in India's tour of South Africa, where he struggled against swing and bounce, but then he made an amazing comeback during England’s tour of India, finishing as the highest run-scorer of the series with 712 runs in nine innings with an average of 89. He scored two double centuries in the series, 209 off 290 balls in the first inning of the second Test and 214* in the second inning of the third Test. 

In the Bangladesh tour of India 2024, Jaiswal became the highest run-scorer with 189 runs in four innings with an average of 47.25. He scored a crucial 56 in the first inning of the first Test against Bangladesh and played an inning of 72 off just 51 balls in the historic Kanpur Test to become the Player of the Match in the second Test.

The New Zealand tour of India was a disappointment for India and Yashasvi Jaiswal as a batter. Jaiswal scored 190 runs in six innings with an average of 31.66, including only one half-century. 

However, the opening batter bounced back in the most crucial series for India, the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, scoring a brilliant 161 in the second inning of the Perth Test after scoring a duck in the first inning. He performed outstandingly in the MCG Test, scoring 82 in the first inning and fighting a knock of 84 in the second inning. Currently, Jaiswal is the highest run scorer for India in the BGT 2024-25 and the second highest overall, with 359 runs in eight innings.
