Current World Cup champions Australia are looking to win the Champions Trophy 2025 and add another trophy to their cabinet. In the absence of their skipper Pat Cummins, Steven Smith is holding the reins of the side and he will look to create history with his leadership and become the second Australian captain after Ricky Ponting to win the Champions Trophy title. The Aussies are heavily relying on their veterans to accomplish their objective of taking Champions Trophy home after 16 years.

The ongoing tournament might be the last Champions Trophy appearance for some Aussie veterans. Considering their age and form, it can be said their careers might not extend until the next edition of the marquee 50-over tournament which is likely to be held in 2029. Noting such names, SportsTiger discusses four current Aussie stalwarts who might retire before the Champions Trophy 2029.

4. Alex Carey

Alex Carey has looked in brilliant touch in ODIs recently but the 33-year-old’s age might hinder his chances to show up for the Aussies in the next Champions Trophy installment. The southpaw will have to save his spot in the team from Josh Inglis as both are known for their extraordinary wicket-keeping potential along with batting skills.

3. Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa is another player who can hang his boots from international cricket before 2029. The 32-year-old leggie is doing wonders with the ball but he will have to maintain his form for the next four years as a lot of youngsters will look to replace him in team. Currently, the 23-year-old Tanveer Sangha is striving to break into the squad with his leg-break skills but the Australian team management has preferred Zampa’s experience thus far.

2. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell, who is 36, might be playing his last Champions Trophy installment. The star all-rounder has been active for his national side since 2012 and it will be highly unlikely for him to maintain fitness and showcase alacrity in 2029 the way he has been displaying for the last 14 years in international cricket.

1. Steven Smith

Australia’s stand-in skipper Steven Smith is another player who might not feature in his national side’s next Champions Trophy squad. The legendary batter is witnessing a sharp slump in his ODI form for the last few years and this fact might force Cricket Australia to remove him from their 50-over squad soon.
