The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, one of the premier 50-over tournaments, is in full swing currently with most of the top players in world cricket participating in it. With eight of the best cricketing countries in the world involved in the Champions Trophy, there have been a lot of sparkling performances with the bat, ball, and in the field, and the fans can expect more of the same over the next week or so.
But, at the same time, some of the top players are getting by the years, and with the ODI format not in sharp focus of the international cricket calendar except when the time comes around for ICC events, the ongoing Champions Trophy could easily be the last for some of them. In this article, SportsTiger looks at the four Indian players who might be playing their last ICC Champions Trophy currently.
Indian players who might be playing their last ICC Champions Trophy
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, the former Champions Trophy winner with the Indian cricket team, is already 36 years of age, with the next edition of the ongoing tournament expected to happen in four years’ time, it is likely that he might not make it. The Indian cricketing stalwart has already retired from the T20I format last year, presumably to prolong his international career, and the ODI format could be the next in the radar for him since he has explained his willingness to continue playing in Tests.
Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami returned to the Indian cricket team before the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after being sidelined for more than 15 months due to multiple injuries. The 34-year-old fast bowler is well into the twilight stage of his international career, and if the injuries become persistent for him, then he might not be able to make this ICC tournament next time around.
Ravindra Jadeja
Just like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, 36, announced his retirement from T20I cricket shortly after winning the ICC T20 World Cup last year, and he has been prone to niggles in recent years. With the demands on an all-rounder in the sport rising higher, it could be really difficult for him to sustain his international career for the next four years, and be at his best, to take part in an ICC event like the Champions Trophy for the Indian cricket team.
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian Test and ODI teams, has been struggling for runs in all formats of the game after leading the side to the ICC T20 World Cup title last year and announcing his retirement from the shortest format of the game like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Furthermore, taking the big responsibility of being the captain of India with indifferent results at the age of 37 won’t help his cause in regards to making the Champions Trophy next time.
