As the world gears up for the most exciting T20 leagues, the Indian Premier League, kicking off on March 22, reigning champions Chennai Super Kings have been hit with a major injury blow. Three weeks before the start of their title defense, CSK opener Devon Conway has been ruled out of cricketing action until May as he is set to undergo thumb surgery this week. The Kiwi batter injured his thumb during the T20I series against Australia and withdrew from the Test series.
Conway’s injury has put Chennai in a tough spot as they would now have to hunt for someone who could open for them alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Four players who can replace Devon Conway in CSK for IPL 2024
As per the reports, the CSK management has already begun their search to fill in for Conway, and while there are no confirmations so far, there are four potential replacements who can do the needful for the MS Dhoni-led team.
1. Ryan Rickelton
The first name that pops up in our minds as a suitable replacement for Conway ahead of the 17th edition of the cash-rich league is South Africa wicket-keeper batter Ryan Rickelton. The 27-year-old plays for MI Cape Town in the SA20 and had a fantastic season this year. Rickelton came up with some crucial performances with bat for his side and enjoyed the season as one of the in-form batters. He scored a total of 530 runs in 10 matches, averaging at 58.89, which included five 50s.
