ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to deliver entertainment and joy to cricket fans. With this distinguished tournament’s return after eight years, ardent supporters of the sport are expecting the same level of delight as they got in the previous installment of the ICC event, held in England in 2017. Back then, Pakistan were crowned the champions after beating their arch-rivals India by 180 runs in the final of the competition played at the Oval.
However, things have changed a lot in these eight years as a lot of cricketing icons who were at their best then have hung up their boots or failed to maintain their excellent work which couldn’t keep them in their national sides. With the competition only a couple of days away, let’s look back at five players from the last edition of the Champions Trophy who won’t feature in the upcoming event.
Five players from last Champions Trophy tournament who will be missed this time
5. Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan played an instrumental role in taking Bangladesh to the semi-final in the Champions Trophy 2017. He did a magnificent job with the bat to take his team to the semis for the first time in ICC events. In the group match against New Zealand at Sophia Gardens, he produced a 114-run knock to help his side pull off the score of 266 runs successfully in 47.2 overs and win the game by five wickets. His innings not only got him the Player of the Match award but also punched his team’s ticket to the semis. Shakib isn’t picked up for the competition this time as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to back youngsters for the ODI extravaganza.
