Former Australian and Melbourne Renegades skipper, Aaron Finch on Thursday, 4th January announced retirement from Big Bash League (BBL). The former Aussie batter, who has been with the Renegades since the team’s inception, was contracted until BBL 14, but on Thursday, ahead of Renegades clash against Hobart Hurricanes, Finch called off his time. 

Speaking ahead of the match, Finch said, “There’ve been some real lows but great highs (too), and I’ve loved every bit of the journey.”

“No moment can compare to winning the BBL title. That, for me, was very special, and something I’ll remember. I’ll really proud to have played at one club for the entirety of my career. The Renegades have been a huge part of my life, and I’m so grateful for everything they’ve given me,” he further added.

“To everyone who’s been part of the journey with me - our member, fans, supporters, my teammates and all who have had a part to play at the club at all levels - thank you,” the former Aussie captain said. It is to be noted that the 37-year-old is likely to call off time in T20 cricket.

Talking of Finch, who has represented Australia in 146 ODIs and 103 T20Is, captaining his national side in 131 occasions, has captained the Renegades for 11 seasons. He holds the record for most runs (3311) and most appearances (106). Moreover, the Aussie will finish his BBL career as tournament’s second most prolific run-scorer of all time after Chris Lynn (3638).
