Former Australia captain and cricketer Aaron Finch stood up in support of India captain Rohit Sharma after legend Sunil Gavaskar made a shocking comment of Jasprit Bumrah being named the captain if the skipper’s participation in the first Test of the upcoming five-match Test series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is uncertain.
Earlier, the former India great, Sunil Gavaskar while speaking on SportsTak claimed, “It is important for the captain to play the first Test match. It’s different if he is injured, but if he is not available, then the deputy leader will be under a lot of pressure.” “I have been reading that Rohit Sharma might not play the first two Tests of the Australia series. I feel that, in that case the selection committee should appoint Jasprit Bumrah the captain of the side for the entire Australia tour, and tell Rohit Sharma that you will participate as a player in this series. For the first Test match, Rohit Sharma has to be there,” Gavaskar further added.
Aaron Finch disagrees with Sunil Gavaskar’s comments on Rohit Sharma; Ritika reacts
Finch, who is now seen in the commentary panel following his retirement, opened up on the matter and disagreed with Sunil Gavaskar’s comment. "I disagree with Sunny on that totally. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team. If you need to stay at home because your wife's going to have a baby that's such a beautiful moment and you take all the time that you need in that regard," Finch said on Around the Wicket show in ESPNcricinfo.
In response, Indian skipper’s wife, who is expecting her second child, reacted to Finch’s comments with a salute emoji. It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma is “not sure” of his participation in the first Test, set to be played from November 22 in Perth. However, the couple haven’t opened up on the same, former India cricketer, Abhinav Mukund earlier confirmed that Rohit is expecting his second child with wife Ritika Sajdeh.
Moreover, it is to be seen that if Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the first Test, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead the side. With uncertainty on the same, latest reports have now revealed that Sharma will travel with the team to Australia, but his participation is still doubtful.
