As the India tour of Sri Lanka comes closer, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is close to confirming India’s coaches. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has however been appointed India’s Head Coach after Rahul Dravid’s tenure came to an end with the conclusion of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, the assistant coaches are also on a verge of finalisation.
Former India cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coach, Abhishek Nayar is set to be appointed as India’s batting coach, while former Dutch international Ryan ten Doeschate is set to take over T Dilip’s role as fielding coach. Notably, the IPL 2024 season with the Kolkata Knight Riders was a highly successful one for the trio of Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan ten Doeschate, who played a key role in bringing home the coveted trophy to the franchise after a decade long wait. While Gambhir was the mentor at KKR, Nayar and ten Doeschate served as batting and fielding coaches respectively.
Reports further add that the duo is set to accompany Gambhir in the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. As far as the bowling coach of the new Indian setup is concerned, the name of Morne Morkel, the former South African fast bowler, has been rumoured to join, but there is no official announcement about any such appointment from BCCI thus far.
The India tour of Sri Lanka is set to commence with the three-match T20I series, followed by three-match ODI series. While the T20Is will be played from July 27 till July 30, the ODIs will take place on August 2, 54 and 7 respectively.
