Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma disappointed his fans after departing early against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match, getting played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. At the toss, Axar Patel emerged victorious and invited the visitors to bat first. Rohit, along with Ryan Rickelton, came out to open the innings for MI and accumulated quick runs in the third over of the game. Confronting Mitchell Starc, he smashed three boundaries. In the fifth over, Axar brought Vipraj Nigam into the attack and the leg-spinner trapped Rohit through leg-before-wicket. The veteran returned to the dugout after scoring only 18 off 12.

The former MI captain has been constantly struggling to be among the runs in this competition. He has scored only 56 runs in five matches at a terrible average of 11.20. Noting India skipper’s disheartening performance, his critics didn’t show mercy and took a dig at his batting failure against DC. “Abhishek Sharma in last 1.5 hrs (hours) scored more than what Rohit Sharma scored in his last 10 IPL innings,” wrote an X user named Sohel.

MI will look to halt DC’s bandwagon in IPL 2025

MI, who have won only one game after their five outings, will strive to stop DC’s juggernaut. Mumbai’s last win came against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. DC, on the other hand, are unbeaten thus far as they’ve won all their four matches.

Mumbai have looked extraordinary in the ongoing match so far. As of writing, MI are 152/4 in 15.4 overs with Tilak Varma (unbeaten 43 off 23) along with Naman Dhir (unbeaten two off three) at the crease. Earlier, opener Ryan Rickelton batted aggressively and scored quick 41 runs off 25. Suryakumar Yadav, who came to bat number three, amassed 40 runs off 28 balls.
