The Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) has reportedly suspected bookies in the IPL 2024 matches at two venues, including Jaipur and Mumbai. Corrupt activities in the cash-rich league are not an alien topic, and because the league has been linked to such incidents in the past, the ACU of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has made sure to take several measures to prevent the mal-practices. According to the reports by The Hindu, the ACU evicted two suspected bookies from Jaipur and Mumbai in the IPL 2024.

The reports stated that the ACU caught two fixers from Rajasthan Royals’ two games in Mumbai and Jaipur. One of the incidents took place on March 28 when the Royals hosted Delhi Capitals at home, Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, whereas, the other occurred when they clashed against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on April 1.

The bookies in the Jaipur match were caught from a corporate box and were handed over to the Jaipur Police. In the RR-MI match, the suspects were handed to the police from the MCA’s President Box at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Police let go of individuals after lack of evidence

The reports stated that while the suspects in the Mumbai match were handed over to the Marine Drive Police Station, an authority let go of them as “nothing untoward was found on their electronic devices.” Notably, attending a match in person and relaying information in real-time helps the bookies due to the eight to 15-second difference between real action and live telecast.

A BCCI official told The Hindu that the ACU has been “doing its best to keep corrupt elements away from the IPL.”
