Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to “think twice” before appointing star pacer Jasprit Bumrah as their next captain. In the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Bumrah shouldered the responsibility of captaincy in a couple of Tests, during the absence of Rohit Sharma. While Bumrah led the side to a dominating win in the opening Test at Perth, he had to suffer a loss in Sydney.
During the entire series, Bumrah came up with a solid performance and emerged as India’s sole beacon of hope. After the series, there have been rumours that the BCCI might hand full-time Test captaincy to Bumrah. However, former India batter Mohammad Kaif feels that handing captaincy to will put extra pressure on Bumrah and the board should consider twice before handing over the cap to the speedster.
