Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr will take on Iranian side Persepolis on Tuesday night at the Azadi Stadium in the Group E fixture of the AFC Champions League 2023-24. Both teams will be playing their first game in this season's Champions League. Al-Nassr are seasoned veterans in the Champions League and have played more than 50 games in the tournament.
The Saudi club had a runner-up finish in 1995 when the league was referred to as the Asian Club Championship. In the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo’s men are currently ranked sixth, having won four out of six games and lost two. Finishing second in the previous season’s Saudi Pro League, Al-Nassr are one of the favourites going into the Champions League this season.
Persepolis is one of the biggest clubs in Iran’s Persian Gulf Pro League, having won 15 titles. As Al-Nassr, Persepolis is no stranger to the Champions League as well, playing more than 100 games and finishing second in the 2018 and 2020 seasons. In the Persian Gulf Pro League, the Tehran Reds are currently at the top of the table, having won three out of four games and drawn one.
