With the pink-ball Test just a few days away, Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has finally opened up on the hosts’ plans for the crucial game in Adelaide. The second Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series is set to be played from December 6 to 10 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.
Australia are currently trailing the series by 0-1 margin after the visitors registered a dominating 295-run win in Perth. But ahead of the second Test, Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey revealed that team’s plan to tackle the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, who was adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling spell.
We’ll strategise accordingly: Alex Carey on facing Indian bowlers
Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Adelaide, Carey said, “Oh, look, he’s (Jasprit Bumrah) a fantastic bowler and has been for years. Our batters are world-class and always find solutions. We’ve analysed him, and hopefully, we can handle his first and second spells better, getting him to bowl later with an older ball. Travis’ counterpunch was effective, and I trust our batters to adapt. Not just Bumrah, but their other debutants also bowled well, and we’ll strategise accordingly.”
“But I feel like, you know, for myself, Travis, Mitch will play differently to those top four and we’ll try to go out there with a strong intent. Whereas the top four can battle day and have done it before and really grind teams into the ground. So, I think that’s the style, as you know, the middle order. But, there’s opportunities as well to absorb the pressure,” he further added, highlighting how the team will go forward.
Confident to win a series: Alex Carey on BGT 2024-25
Speaking ahead of the day-night Test in Adelaide, Alex Carey also said that the team is confident to win the series. “We’re still very confident here to win a series. Still five Test matches, not four. Great opportunity now, in Adelaide,” he added. It is to be noted that Australia has a commendable record in pink-ball Test, having won 11 out of the 12 matches they have played so far. While they are unbeaten in day-night Tests at home, having won all seven matches in Australia, they have just registered one defeat, that too in an away match.
