England opening batsman Alex Hales aged 34 has shocked the cricketing fraternity by announcing early retirement. Hales played a key role for his team to lift the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 edition but unfortunately, he never featured in ODIs post-Mar, 2019.

Alex Hales was considered to play in the ODI WC 2019 but he was dropped from the squad as he failed a drug test and was never in contention to play international cricket until September 2022. Hales got a national call-up after Jonny Bairstow's freak golf injury, months before the start of T20 WC 2022.
