In a latest update, Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray will come together to take the field at the Wimbledon 2024 mixed doubles. The news came out on Wednesday, July 3 after the Brit withdrew from the men’s singles on Tuesday, July 2. The Scot’s representative confirmed that the pair have been granted a wildcard entry after Murray pulled out of singles event.
Murray, who is two-time singles champion, also clarified that it will be his final appearance at the tennis major. While he is playing in the men’s doubles with his brother Jamie, he will pair with his Brit partner Emma. It is to be noted that Murray famously played mixed doubles with Serena Williams in 2019 with them making it to the third round.
Taking to social media, the Wimbledon wrote, “team name suggestion at the ready…. @EmmaRaducanu and @andy_murray will be entering this year’s Mixed Doubles Championship as wild cards”.
The 37-year-old Murray is coming after recovering after undergoing back surgery to remove a spinal cyst 11 days ago. Although he withdrew from the singles event in the first round, where he was set to face Tomas Machac, he said he’ll be fit to play the doubles.
