Angel Gomes, the England and Lille midfielder, has reportedly rejected an approach from West Ham United to sign him after his current contract with French club expires this summer. The Premier League club based in London offered Angel Gomes a £100,000-a-week contract to join them for the next season with their current manager Graham Potter being a big fan of him, but despite that, he has decided to not sign with them.
Notably, as per the report from the Guardian, West Ham United made multiple attempts to bring in soon-to-be free agent Angel Gomes to the London Stadium, offering him a contract recently. Graham Potter was looking forward to having the England midfielder on board, to improve the depth of his team’s midfield, but now, it is not going to happen since their wage proposal seemingly wasn’t enough for him.
Barcelona have interest in signing Angel Gomes on free transfer this summer
Apart from West Ham United, the likes of Barcelona are interested in signing Angel Gomes in the summer, which might have swayed the player to say no to them. Moreover, it is understood that there are other differences in getting the player to accept the West Ham United contract, which is why many sources are indicating that an agreement between both the parties won’t be reached.
Moreover, in the West Ham United ranks, striker Danny Ings is currently out of favour as far as the teams picked by Graham Potter in recent weeks, while they are not interested in signing Carlos Soler and Evan Ferguson after their loan deals get completed. The best possible way for West Ham United to change the mind of Angel Gomes could be by offering him a bigger contract, but only after offloading certain players this summer.
