Delhi Capitals survived elimination after winning their nail-biting thriller against defending champions Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. Ahead of their next IPL 2023 fixture against Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday evening, DC suffered a major setback as their star pacer Anrich Nortje left the squad to return to South Africa due to personal reasons.
DC are currently standing at the bottom of the table with six points in nine matches and Nortje has picked seven wickets after playing eight of the Capitals' nine matches so far this season.
DC took to their official Twitter handle and released a statement that read, "Owing to a personal emergency, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje had to leave for South Africa late on Friday night. He will be unavailable for this evening’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore."
The spectacular performances by Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed in their last outing against GT in Ahmedabad, have boosted the DC squad's confidence, however, the exit of their star pacer Nortje came as a major blow for the Capitals, who will look to win their fourth game of the season. Nortje has cited a personal emergency and the update on his return to the IPL is yet to be disclosed.
