Anthony Edwards, the shooting guard of the Minnesota Timberwolves, has revealed his list of the top five NBA players of all time, and it does not include LeBron James. Edwards, who is averaging 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game in the 2022-23 season, shared his personal rankings in an interview recently.
According to Edwards, his five best players ever are Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Allen Iverson, and Kevin Durant.
Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest of all time, with six championships, six Finals MVPs, five regular season MVPs, and 14 All-Star selections in his illustrious career. Bryant, who passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in 2020, was a five-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time regular season MVP, and an 18-time All-Star. He was also the fourth all-time scorer with 33,643 points
O’Neal is one of the most dominant big men ever, winning four titles, three Finals MVPs, one regular season MVP, and making 15 All-Star appearances. He ranks eighth on the all-time scoring list with 28,596 points. Iverson is a Hall of Famer who won the MVP award in 2001, was an 11-time All-Star, and was one of the most influential players in terms of style and culture. Durant is a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time regular season MVP, and a 13-time All-Star. He is also one of the most versatile scorers ever, with a career average of 27.3 points per game.
Edwards’ list may surprise some fans who consider LeBron James one of the top players of all time. James has won four titles, four Finals MVPs, four regular season MVPs, and made 19 All-Star appearances. He is also the highest scorer in NBA history with 38,652 points.
LeBron not being among the top five is a little strange, though Edwards is free to have his viewpoint. Every time Edwards considers this practice, he seems determined to ignore at least one legend. In his all-time starting five last year, Edwards not only named himself and James but omitted Michael Jordan.
