Antim Panghal became the first-ever female wrestler from India to clinch a gold medal at the U20 World Wrestling Championships to script history. She beat Kazakhstan's Atlyn Shagayeva 8-0 in the 53 kg category summit clash to ensure a gold for the country in the competition being staged in Sofia, Bulgaria. This is not the first time Antim has made the nation proud as she had earlier bagged the Bronze in World Cadet Championships.

Notably, Antim left her mark in the entire competition and never let the occasion get the better of her. While she started off with a win by technical superiority over Germany's Amery Olivia, the 18-year-old never looked back from there on and registered wins on her way to the final either by handsome margins or outplaying the opponent with a technical superiority.

Among other wrestlers from India, Sonam Malik and Priyanka came close to a gold medal too but had to settle for silver after both of them lost their gold medal matches. While Sonam was competing in the 62 kg category, Priyanka was contesting in the 65 kg category.

Overall, India finished third in the Men's Freestyle category. To go with their 6 bronze medals, they had a silver medal against their name. As far as the women's freestyle is concerned, other than the gold, India have now taken their total silver medal tally to three along with a bronze medal.
