Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper-batter Anuj Rawat drew attention with his 48-run knock during the IPL 2024 opener. In the first clash of the tournament, reigning champions Chennai hosted Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The high-octane thriller was preceded by a star-studded ceremony, featuring stars like AR Rahman, Sonu Nigam, Akshay Kumar, and more.

Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and invited his former side to field first. RCB had a promising line-up, but they faced the wrath of CSK bowlers, especially CSK debutant Mustafizur Rahman. The young wicketkeeper batter who came to bat at sixth position for his side gave stability to the team with a brilliant 48-run knock in just 25 deliveries. His knock was combined with four boundaries and three maximums.

Rawat drew social media’s attention in no time, and fans started hailing him as Gurgaon ka Gilchrist for his actions.

RCB set a target of 174 runs for their counterparts.
