After a 2-0 clean sweep in the Test series, the Indian team started three-match T20Is series with a bang after a 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first T20I at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 6. However, opening batter Abhishek Sharma lost his wicket in a worst possible way during this one-sided contest. The left-hander got run out after a miscommunication with his opening partner Sanju Samson while India were chasing a target of 128 runs. Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who mentors Abhishek Sharma, indirectly slammed the youngster, and asked him to use his brain while batting next time.

Coming to chase the 128-run target, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson were looking to give a flying start to India as the duo already posted 25 runs in the first two overs. However, on the last ball of the second over, Sanju came a few steps ahead after playing a delivery by Taskin Ahmed. Abhishek, who was at the non-striker's end left his crease as soon as Samson played the shot. However, when Samson said no, Abhishek lost his wicket while trying to return to the crease.

After the match, Abhishek Sharma took to social media post about India’s win in the first T20I against Bangladesh along with a few pictures. The cricketer captioned the post ‘Every run, every ball—it’s all for the team. Great start to the series.” Reacting to his post, a fan with a username @shlokseth commented “Can feel a big one coming.” The comment got a reply from Yuvraj Singh itself as the former cricketer wrote “@shlokseth only if we apply our brains properly.”

Notably, Abhishek Sharma had a promising start to his international career. After a memorable season in IPL 2024, Abhishek got a maiden India for a five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe in July 2024. After a duck in his first international game, Abhishek Sharma went on to smash his maiden international hundred in his second T20I for India. He also got a good start in the first T20I against Bangladesh as the latter got out after scoring 16(7). Abhishek has scored 140 runs from six T20I in his career so far at aa strike rate of 179.48.
