Real Madrid’s announcement tweet of Turkish wonder kid Arda Güler is the second most liked announcement tweet in history, beating PSG’s announcement of Lionel Messi and only behind Manchester United’s announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo. The 18-year-old was officially introduced on Friday as Los Blancos have struck gold in social media terms as his announcement tweet currently sits at more than 850 thousand likes.

Fans of Turkish football are known to be passionate online, and it is no doubt through their engagement that the tweet has reached this milestone. Considered the brightest talent Turkish football has produced in a while, Güler is already a household name in the country. With his move to Madrid now official, the former Fenerbahce player will be looking to develop into one of Europe’s elite midfielders at the biggest club in the world.

The tweet is ahead of Messi’s announcement (which is at around 800 thousand likes), but still well short of the 1.8 million likes that Ronaldo’s announcement by Manchester United generated. It is still no doubt a very impressive accomplishment given Güler’s age.

Young Turkish midfielder is one of Europe’s most promising talents

The midfielder, who has been compared to Lionel Messi and gained attention from top European clubs, garnered significant interest during the summer transfer window. While Fenerbahce wished to retain Guler for their pursuit of the Super Lig title, it was evident that his departure was imminent.

Numerous renowned clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Aston Villa, and Borussia Dortmund, expressed their interest in the 18-year-old talent. Ultimately, Real Madrid emerged victorious, outbidding all other competitors for his services. They agreed to a transfer fee exceeding his release clause, starting with an initial payment of €20 million and a potential additional €10 million in add-ons.
