Argentina announced their squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia. However, contrary to everyone's expectations, Argentine football great Lionel Messi missed a spot in the 28-member team. The Argentina’s football team captain will miss the clashes against Chile and Colombia due to injury. Messi suffered an ankle ligament injury during Argentina’s win over Colombia in the Copa America final played in July. Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed the same while he announced the 28-man squad for the games set to be played for September 5 and September 10.
Apart from Messi’s omission, the squad saw midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez and striker Valentin Castellanos getting call ups. Not only this but names like Alejandro Garnacho, Valentin Carboni, Valentin Barco and Matias Soule were also included. It is to be noted that the reigning FIFA World Cup champions will be up against Chile in Buenos Aires and on September 5 and Colombia in Barranquilla on September 10.
