Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Bayern Munich and German midfielder Joshua Kimmich on a free transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Gunners, who are currently second in the Premier League table, find themselves 13 points below league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand. They are set to play PSV Eindhoven next week in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. With some quality defensive midfielders like Declan Rice, Jorginho and Thomas Partey already present in Arsenal’s squad, signing Joshua Kimmich could be a good option to boost their squad depth.

The North London-based club is not the only one which is reportedly looking to sign the German midfielder, as per the report from Sky Sports. FC Barcelona were also looking to hire the services of the Bayern player, according to some sources. Joshua Kimmich, who switches between playing at the center-midfield and right-back position, for Bayern Munich is going to be out of a contract at the end of this season. While rumors of negotiations of a potential contract extension have been doing the rounds, there isn’t any clarity over the same yet.

I’ve never given updates on negotiations: Bayern director Michael Eberl

The sporting authorities at Bayern Munich have dismissed any news of an already agreed contract extension with Joshua Kimmich. Director Michael Eberl said, "I've never given updates on negotiations, won’t do that now either because that’s inappropriate". "We treat each other with big respect-we’re talking. What’s important is how Josh and we as a club treat each other", added the Bayern director referring to ongoing talks with Joshua Kimmich.

Kimmich, who signed for the Bavarian club in 2015, is one of the most experienced players in the current squad alongside Manuel Neur. He has started 23 out of the 24 games Bayern has played in the Bundesliga and has racked up 10 assists and one goal across all competitions.
