In the men’s singles semi-final of badminton at the Asian Games 2023, HS Prannoy of India lost in two straight games by 16-21, 9-21 to the Chinese Li Shifeng, on October 6, Friday. With this tough defeat at Binjiang Gymnasium BDM Court 1 in Hangzhou, the Indian shuttler has to settle for a bronze medal, after securing a historic silver in the men’s team event a few days ago at the Asiad.

The first game of the men’s singles semi final began well for HS Prannoy, who went toe-to-toe with Li Shifeng, taking the 11-10 lead at the break. But, then, the Chinese shuttler brought his best to the second half of the first game, which led to him getting the better of his opponent by 21-16.

Li Shifeng continued to get better with his consistency in the all-important clash in front of the home fans in Hangzhou during the second game. He managed to down HS Prannoy comfortably by 21-9 to reach the final of the men’s singles competition in badminton at the Asian Games 2023.

Despite this bad result,  HS Prannoy will leave China with two medals to his name from the Asian Games 2023 . The 31-year-old has been in some of the best form of his life as a badminton player in the last few months, reaching the career high ranking of No. 6 in the world after winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in men’s singles this past August.
