Indian boxer Preeti Pawar signed off with a bronze in the women’s boxing 54kg on Tuesday, October 3. The Indian pugilist lost to reigning flyweight champion, China’s Chang Yuan at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.

The 19-year-old Indian boxer beat her Kazakh opponent with an impressive score of 4-1 to assure India of a medal at the Games and seal her 2024 Paris Olympics berth in the boxing women’s 54kg. However, she went down 0-5 against Chang. The reigning champion began landing constant shots on the Indian and maintained her defensive composure to win the first round by split decision.
However, Preeti staged a comeback in the next round, with three of the five judges’ results going in her favour and thus forcing a decider. But, the champion brutal attack and defensive put her in a dominant position, with Preeti ending her campaign with a bronze.
Lovlina Borgohain advances in women’s 75kg final
Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain confirmed a medal for India in boxing after she beat Thailand’s Baison Maneekon in the 75kg semifinal on Tuesday, 3 October. The Indian started in a commanding position and took the bout 5-0 by points.
India at the time of writing, solidified its position at fourth place with 62 medals, which includes 13 gold, 24 silver and 25 bronze.
