Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee on Wednesday, 27th September scored the fastest fifty, which came in just nine balls to break the record of Yuvraj Singh. The 16-year-old Yuvraj Singh had etched this record in the 2007 T20 World Cup against England. While Dipendra remained unbeaten at 52 off 10 balls, which included eight sixes. He was well supported by Kushal Malla, who also scored 137* runs off 50 deliveries to help the side post 314/3 in the 20 overs.
It is to be noted that Nepal ended up scoring the highest-ever total in T20Is, overtaking Afghanistan’s 278/3 against Ireland which came in 2019.
Earlier in the match, Mongolia won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first. The side posted a record-breaking 314 runs on the board, which included 26 sixes in total, which was also the highest by any team in the format’s history. However, they thereafter reduced Mongolia to 41/10 in 13.1 overs to register their first win at the ongoing Games in China.
Nepal will next take on Maldives in the seventh match of Group A at the Asian Games on October 1, whereas Mongolia will next play Maldives on September 28 at 11:30 a.m. IST.
