The Indian Women's football team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat against Chinese Taipei in their Asian Games 2023 opener at the Wenzhou Sports Olympic Centre Stadium, in Wenzhou, China. The Blue Tigeresses missed star goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan, who is recovering from a knee injury, but put forth a valiant performance.

The first 45 minutes were full of half-chances for both teams as Manisha Kalyan and Bala Devi failed to find the back of the net. But moments into the second half, India's Anju Tamang scored past Ming Jung after multiple rebounded shots.
But unfortunately for the Blue Tigeresses, Chinese Taipei came back to score twice as Li-Chin Lai (63') and Hsuan Su (84') found the back of the net to seal the win.
