Manchester United’s winger Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa might not play again for his boyhood club as per reports. Rashford, who has risen up the ranks from the Red Devil’s youth setup, lost his place in the first team under new manager Ruben Amorim, and was also not included in the squad on multiple occasions due to disciplinary issues.
The 27-year-old English forward did not have the best of seasons under former manager Erik Ten Hag last year as either. With poor performances over the past year or so, he was sent out on loan to league rivals Aston Villa in the latest winter transfer window.
The club academy product who has been at the club for almost 10 years, has featured in 426 games across all competitions; scoring 138 goals and providing 64 assists in the process. After moving to Aston Villa in February 2025, the winger has provided four assists in nine games, and has been on a good run of form recently. Man United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently made some comments about Rashford and some other United players as well.
I think he’s doing the right things with the players: Ratcliffe talks about Ruben Amorim’s strict player treatment
In a recent interview with Gary Neville, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was asked about whether he agreed with the treatment Ruben Amorim has given to players like Rashford, Antony, and Sancho etc, all of whom have been loaned out to different clubs as they don’t fit Ruben Amorim’s system. To this he responded by saying, “I think he’s doing the right thing with the players. He has to be in charge of the dressing room. He’s got a set of principles and he want the players to abide by his set of principles which is that you have to be totally and utterly committed to winning the next football match.”
In another interaction with the media, Ratcliffe even spoke specifically about Rashford mentioning how his move away from Manchester was good for both parties. He said, “I am very pleased he is doing well. It’s good to see because he has got tremendous talent but for whatever reason it wasn’t working in Manchester, for the past couple of seasons.”
With all of this, it is now understood that Aston Villa might actually sign Marcus Rashford permanently £40m in summer after his loan tenure gets over since Manchester United do not want him back at the club. There has also been interest from clubs like FC Barcelona in acquiring the services of the English winger.
