Marcus Rashford, who signed for Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United in early February 2025, has been having a great run of form lately under Unai Emery. It is reported that the deal also comes with a clause allowing Villa to sign Rashford permanently for around 40 million pounds at the end of the current season. While Rashford is on loan, Aston Villa is paying at least 75% of his 325,000 pounds-a-week salary, with the possibility of boosting this to 90% depending on performance-based bonuses. While the club is happy with Rashford’s performances, they are hoping that the English winger will be open to negotiate a contract with lower wages than what he had at Manchester United.
These dropped wages will allow the club to sign Rashford on a permanent deal, who seems to be casted out from Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s future plans as well. Rashford's switch occurred after being dropped by Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim, who felt he was not committed to training. Since switching to Villa, Rashford stated he had felt fitter and more match-sharp. Rashford netted his first two Villa goals as the team edged past Preston North End 3-0 in the FA Cup and reached the semi-finals.
Dreamy season so far for Aston Villa under Unai Emery
As of today, Aston Villa is experiencing a dreamy and extremely competitive 2024–25 season under the management of Unai Emery. In the Premier League, Villa is currently in seventh place with 48 points. Their recent 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on April 2, 2025, saw Marcus Rashford scoring his first league goal for the club and taking his G/A tally to seven. Even in Cup competitions, Villa are having a dream run as they have recently progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and will also be playing in the Champions League quarter-final next week.
Former English footballer and manager Paul Merson has also commented about Marcus Rashford’s stint at Aston Villa saying that the winger should consider making a permanent move to Villa Park. Speaking about the remainder of the season, Paul said, “These eleven games are massive for his career.”
