Cricket Australia on Monday, August 7 named its extended 18-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. However, each side are to name a 15-man squad and Cricket Australia will have to trim the 18-member to a 15-man side. Notably, the World Cup is set to take place in India in October-November, later this year.
The notable name missing a place in the ODI World Cup squad was Marnus Labuschagne. The Aussie mainstay, who has featured in 30 of Australia’s 38 50-over matches, has been left over uncapped leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha and all-rounder Aaron Hardie.
With this Australia has become the first nation to name their squad for the marquee tournament. Additionally, CA has also named their squad for the South Africa as well as the India series, which will be played in the build-up to the 50-over tournament.
Furthermore, the side has Pat Cummin s , who has a fractured wrist which will keep him out for six weeks so far. However, he is expected to join the squad in South Africa and India ahead of the ODI World Cup. Mitchell Starc is also nursing injury but has been named in the squad.
