Cricket Australia (CA) on Saturday, December 28 announced 14-member squad for the upcoming Women’s Ashes series. Notably, the Women’s Ashes series is set to kickstart from January 12 where the two sides will play three ODIs, followed by as many T20Is along with one Test match until February 2.
While the side will be led by wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy, spin bowling all-rounder Sophie Molineux has been ruled out from the series due to a knee injury. It is to be noted that Molineux sustained the injury during the home series against India. Moreover, in the left-arm spinner’s absence, Grace Harris will join the side for three-match T20I series.

According to Kate Beerworth, physiotherapist of the Australian women’s team, Molineux will undergo a surgery on her left knee and a call on her return will be taken thereafter. Speaking after the squad announcement, Shawn Fleger, Cricket Australia’s Head of Performance and National Selector said, as quoted by CA release, “We’re pleased with how the side performed in recent series against India and New Zealand and are confident we have a balanced squad capable of retaining the Ashes.”
“It was pleasing to see Alyssa Healy return to action against new Zealand and looked in good touch, along with a number of batters continuing their strong form on from the recent series against India,” Fleger added. The National Selector also hailed the inclusion of Georgia Voll, adding that she “will be a strong option with the bat if required in her debut Ashes series.”
