Cricket Australia on Wednesday, May 1 announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in June. The Australian cricket board named Mitchell Marsh as the captain of the side for the marquee event, set to be played in the United States of America (USA) and West Indies.
While the side included the likes of David Warner, Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell; World Cup winner Steve Smith has been one of the big names missing in the side. Moreover, CA has preferred Cameroon Green and Ashton Agar over Steve Smith and Jake Fraser-McGurk, the youngster who has been in top form for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
Moreover, Green and Ashton Agar find a place despite being absent from international T20 cricket for nearly 18 months. Chief Selector George Bailey although listed Steve Smith, Matt Short, Jason Behrendorff, Aaron Hardie, Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett as unfortunate omissions, while suggesting Fraser-McGurk “continues to impress and is developing rapidly.”
“We will continue monitoring several players who have missed out on this preliminary squad and note that if we wish to change this squad, we have the option to do so over the coming weeks in accordance with ICC regulations,” Bailey further added as quoted by Cricket Australia in its release.
