After lifting their eighth Asia Cup title on Sunday, beating Sri Lanka by the biggest ever margin, the Men in Blue now move a step closer to the ODI World Cup 2023. The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will now get them ready for the ODI series against Australia, who are set to travel to India later this month ahead of the marquee event.
Seeing the three-match ODI series as the next challenge in preparations for the 50-over World Cup, the BCCI Senior Selection Committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar is all set to name the squad for the three-match series on September 18 at around 8:30 pm IST. In a big update, the Indian board might look to rest regular senior players like skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah as part of the workload management.
However, there is no official announcement in regard to this, the team management might look to give chance to other players, in order to test their bench strength and give some gametime to other players, like Shreyas Iyer, Shami, etc.
Talking about India’s campaign at the ODI World Cup 2023, the Men in Blue will begin their challenge against Australia on October 8. However, ahead of their opening match in the 50-over World Cup, they will play two warm-up matches against England and Netherlands.
Author’s Take: The BCCI might look for this move in order to test their bench strength, which includes names like Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel (if fit), Shreyas Iyer, etc.
