After Matt Short was forced to be ruled out of the third ODI against West Indies, Cricket Australia (CA) has named Ben McDermott as his replacement. The update came ea rly on Monday, February 5 after Short sustained the injury in the second ODI of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, 4th February.

The 28-year-old Short added 41 runs with the bat in the second ODI and was unable to take the field in the second after suffering an injury. However, McDermott comes into the ODI side after having last played an ODI in Australia against Pakistan in 2022.
Recently, Ben McDermott played an unbeaten 146-run knock for Queensland against Tasmania at the Sheffield Shield. He has featured in 25 T20Is and six ODIs after making his international debut in 2018.
Moreover, Australia will also be without Josh Hazlewood as he is set to remain in Sydney before joining the side for the T20I series in Hobart ahead of first T20I against West Indies. While the final ODI of the three-match series will be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday, February 6, the T20I series will commence from Friday, 9th February at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
