On Friday, March 14, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) named India all-rounder Axar Patel as their skipper ahead of the 2025 edition. With the tournament set to begin in a week’s time on March 22, the Capitals took to social media to name their skipper of the season.
Axar Patel, who recently was part of the Indian squad which lifted the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, beating New Zealand by four wickets, is set to embark on a new chapter with a new-looking squad. He is set to succeed wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who was released from the side ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, held in November 2024.
Axar Patel to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025
The Gujarat-born player has been a core member of the DC, giving his services for seven seasons now. Having played over 150 IPL matches, Axar Patel has scored 1653 runs at an impressive strike rate of 131 and has also claimed 123 wickets at an economy rate of 7.28. The 31-year-old has played 82 matches for the Capitals, scoring 967 runs and picking up 62 wickets. Seeing his impressive record, the DC retained him for a massive sum of INR 18 Crore.

We have plenty of leaders in the group which is also very helpful for me, and I can’t wait to join the team as we look forward to a very successful season for the Capitals, backed by the immense love and support of our fans,” he added.
