In the second double-header fixture on Sunday, April 13, the Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered their first-ever defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Axar Patel-led side succumbed to the Mumbai Indians (MI), suffering a 12-run defeat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital. With this defeat, DC dropped down to the second place in the IPL 2025 standings.

To add more worries, the DC skipper and all-rounder Axar Patel was also fined after his team maintained slow over-rate in their last match. The skipper was fined INR 12 Lakh for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct as the MI batting inning just got a bit over time in the first half.

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL statement read. The Indian all-rounder joined the long list of skippers, including the likes of Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson and Rajat Patidar.

DC suffer their first defeat in IPL 2025

Speaking of match number 29 of the IPL 2025, DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and elected to field first. Thus inviting the Hardik Pandya-led MI to bat first, on the back of decent knocks from Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, MI posted 205/5 in 20 overs, the lowest of the last six matches in Delhi since IPL 2024.

Later, DC in pursuit of the 206-run target, fell short by 12 runs, despite a crucial knock coming from Karun Nair (89 off 40). None of the other DC batters could get some major runs on the board with MI’s Karn Sharma being the wrecker-in-chief as he picked three wickets whereas Mitchell Santner got two in his bag.
