The Badminton Association of India has announced the Indian contingent for the upcoming Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou. The event is scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8. H S Prannoy automatically qualified for the Asian Games due to his ranking (9th in the world).
Lakshya Sen and KS Srikanth were picked for the squad after the four-day selection trials held at the Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence in Hyderabad. Joining Srikanth and Sen, Mithun Manjunath joined the Men’s singles group after winning the final men's singles event.
Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist PV Sindhu will be joined by Ashmita Chaliha, Anupama Upadhyaya, and Malvika Bansod in the women's singles category. Whereas in the men’s doubles event, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila and world championships bronze medalists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will represent India.
The women's doubles category will see Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa along with Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly. Whereas the mixed doubles event will include pairs of K Sai Pratheek and Tanisha, and Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy.
