Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has made it into the semi-finals of the men's freestyle 65 kg event. He defeated Iran's Morteza Ghiasi Cheka in the quarterfinals to advance further. The Indian wrestler defeated the Iranian by pinning him down to the mat (victory by fall). After trailing in the first two rounds, Punia made a comeback and took the match in his favour.

Before that Punia had defeated Kyrgyzstan's Ernazar Akmataliev in the ⅛ final. Punia has his hopes high when he will walk out in the squared circle. All eyes will be on the ace Indian wrestler to make it to the finàl of the freestyle event.

Bajrang Punia will be facing Azerbaijan's Haji Aliyev in the semi-finals at the Makuhari Messe Hall A Mat B.

Bajrang Punia's semi-final match is scheduled on August 6. As per the Tokyo 2020 Olympics official website, the match will begin at 2:45 PM (IST).
