FC Barcelona’s iconic home stadium, Spotify Camp Nou is all set to resume its services before the start of the next year, i.e.; the Xavi’s team would be back at their home on December 15, albeit at a 60% capacity. Following the renovation, the capacity of the stadium will be expanded to 105,000 spectators at a time.
Initially, the club had wanted to resume the action at their home on the club’s 125th anniversary on November 29. However, with renovation still going on in the full circle, Mundo Deportivo reported that the Camp Nou will reopen before Christmas. FC Barcelona have requested La Liga to make their initial match back on that date and to extend the working hours of renovation.
The Catalan are currently playing their home games at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, which is the former home of their city rivals Espanyol. This stadium boasts a capacity of 55,926 which hasn’t proved very suitable for the Xavi’s side. In January, they were outshone by Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey.
Their heart-break streak at Estadi Olimpic continued with the prestigious UCL Quarter Final defeat to Paris Saint Germain in the leg 2 by 4-1. The loss meant that the Spanish giants bowed out of the tournament with a 6-4 aggregate against them.
