Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona forward, has been ruled out for upwards of four weeks after suffering an ankle ligament injury during the La Liga game against Leganes at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, which ended in a shock 0-1 defeat. With that, Lamine Yamal is set to miss the huge clash in the league at home against Atletico Madrid, which will have title implications going into the second half of the season.

During the first half of the Barcelona versus Leganes clash, Lamine Yamal picked up the injury, but despite that, he continued playing till 75th minute of the contest before being replaced by Gavi at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium. The teenager had earlier suffered an injury on the same ankle early last month during a win over Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League, which led to him missing five games in more than three weeks.

Lamine Yamal has grade 1 injury to the anterior tibiofibular ligament in the ankle

In their official statement from Barcelona on the website, they confirmed the extent of the injury suffered by Lamine Yamal during last weekend’s La Liga clash. They wrote, “The first team player Lamine Yamal received a blow to the right ankle during the game against CD Leganés on Sunday. Tests carried out on Monday have revealed that the player has a grade 1 injury to the anterior tibiofibular ligament in the ankle. The player is expected to be out for 3 to 4 weeks.”

During the ongoing season, Lamine Yamal has scored six goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Barcelona, finding himself in third spot in goal-scoring list behind Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old is third on the list of players providing most assists in the top five European leagues in the 2024-25 season, which is quite a stellar record for a player of his age.
