Defending German Champions Bayern Munich is set to sack their current manager Julian Nagelsmann and replace him with Thomas Tuchel. Nagelsmann took over as Bayern manager less than two years ago and led them to a Bundesliga title last season. But the 2022-23 season has not been great for the Bavarians as they started off slow and are second behind Borussia Dortmund.

The last game managed by Nagalsmann was Bayern’s defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, after which he flew to Austria for skiing. This string of poor results compelled the Bayern Munich board to take the call of sacking him. According to BILD, the upper management also felt that the club was at risk of missing out on winning a treble.

This development was first reported by Fabrizio Romano, who also stated that the German coach will be back at Säbener Straße soon in order to terminate the contract. He was under contract till June 2026 but he will leave with immediate effect. Romano also revealed that Bayern was discussing this move for the last 24-48 hours before agreeing to pull the trigger.

Bayern Munich is set to take on title rivals Dortmund in the Bundesliga, Freiburg in the DFB Pokal and Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final within the space of 10 days. With these crucial games coming up, the board felt that a change in management was required.

Reacting to the possible sacking of Nagalsmann, Bayern Munich defender Joao Cancelo was shocked by the development. He, while speaking to Sport TV, said, “I've only found out now. I know I won't find Nagelsmann when I return to Munich. He wanted me at Bayern, I'd like to thank him. As for Tuchel, he made me lose a Champions League final, so I hope he will win it for me this year.”
